YOUNG AGAIN Cat Food

Late in the year 2012 Donegal Cattery was introduced to a newer line of specialty cat food, YOUNG AGAIN, through Susan Youngman at Victorian Gardens Cattery. Having been satisfied over the years with ROYAL CANIN, I was a tough sell for a new line of cat food.

So, I did my own investigation and trial period at Donegal Cattery on some resident spays and a young show kitty with a resistant medical condition. One of them, Renny, had eyelid cysts surrounding her eyes and a fat (or what I called a “poochy”) belly, both of which seemed impossible to resolve. Her daughter, Alley, constantly blinked and squinted her eyes, even though her tearing was confined to small crusts on the outer corners. And my new show kitty who resides with them, Caley, has had soft stools for months, unresolved by any previous attempts at food changes and no evidence of abnormalities by abdominal ultrasound or blood work.

After a gradual transition and about a month on the food, here are the results:

Renny no longer has eyelid cysts and has lost her poochy belly.
Alley no longer squints and blinks her eyes.
Caley no longer has soft stools.
In addition, they are all running around like crazy cats that have just been granted a new life. Caley is a kitten, but the other two cats are middle age to senior adults and haven’t had this much energy in years.

So what is the reason that a food could have such an impact on the health of these cats?

LESS CARBOHYDRATES

Even my two veterinarians agree that the carbohydrates in cat foods have been the cause of many diseases.

Listed as AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) Approved and endorsed by The Cat Fanciers’ Association, Inc

YOUNG AGAIN Cat Food offers a low carbohydrate (50/22) and a zero carbohydrate food, the latter of which is beneficial especially to diabetic cats. I am incorporating the 50/22 into all of my cats’ and kittens’ diets. Here is a description of the foods from the Young Again web site:

YOUNG AGAIN 50/22 Cat Food
“Like his larger cousins in the wild, your cat is a true carnivore. When he doesn't eat meat - his natural diet - it's easy for him to become overweight and at risk for many diseases that can dramatically shorten his life. Young Again Cat Food uses only 100% meat protein with no grains, glutens or cheap fillers that add unnecessary carbs and cause obesity.

YOUNG AGAIN Zero Carbs Cat Food
Like lions and tigers, cats are carnivores. When they eat carbohydrates instead of meat it’s easier for them to become overweight and at risk for diabetes. Fortunately in most cases, feline diabetes can be effectively treated and even reversed with lifestyle changes – including a proper carnivore diet like Young Again Zero Carbs cat food.

Carbs are the glue that will bind food into one consistent size pellet: our food has no Carbs and therefore will naturally have a wide range of pellet sizes within each bag.

All-Natural Ingredients
We use only finest all-natural, gluten-free and species-appropriate ingredients to provide proper nutrition very similar to that of a diet in the wild. We never use fillers like plant proteins to bulk up a carnivore diet. As a result, even though our bags may be smaller than other products, they can last up to 2½ times longer and are a much better value. And every one of our foods contains Rejuvené, a naturally-derived compound found only in Young Again pet food that helps keep the immune system in supply of the materials it needs to operate at peak performance. Rejuvené also helps maintain optimal wellbeing and physical attributes.

Found only in Young Again foods, Rejuvené is a naturally-derived compound that contains molecules that, when joined together, make up the structural units of RNA and DNA. These fundamental cellular building blocks have the ability to become any type of cell the body needs and can be stockpiled by the body, then sent to repair and build new cells where they are needed most. For example, in the event of illness, they can rapidly be used to make new white blood cells and other disease killers, or help repair damaged organs and tissue.

Rejuvené also works to help the immune system operate at peak performance to help fight disease. It also helps maintain optimal wellbeing from the inside out for increased fertility, healthier organs, skin, fur, teeth and a stronger skeletal structure.”

I am working directly with the national sales manager at this company, keeping her informed of any research I run across regarding nutrition. My retired spays and neuters, kittens, breeding males, and bitches waiting to become queens receive the 50/22 as a portion of their diets. I will continue to use the ROYAL CANIN PRO QUEEN for girls who are bred through lactation but have also added some of the YOUNG AGAIN to their food as well. I will also keep a portion of the ROYAL CANIN KITTEN as part of the kitten regimen and ROYAL CANIN PERSIAN for adults that need placement. I realize that not all clients shop online for foods and I don’t want my cats and kittens to have a complete food change added to the stress of the move to a new home. I will leave it up to the client as to which food they decide to continue using.

Our first litter born in March of 2013, after adding the YOUNG AGAIN 50/22 to the last two weeks of Gracie’s diet, helped to produce very vibrant kittens. It was Gracie’s fifth litter of kittens and she did extremely well with whelping. The smallest kitten (2.6 ounces) was so active at birth that she kicked her way out of the sac and kept on writhing. The other three ranged up to a healthy birth weight of 3.5 ounces.
